Beja: Municipal Budget 2025 failed. Elected representatives of the three forces disagree and exchange statements.

Last day 27 November, the permanent executive of the Municipal Council of Beja presented, in a chamber meeting, the Municipal Budget for 2025 and Major Planning Options. The documents deserved the votes in favor of those elected from the PS (3) and against CDU elected officials (3) and Beja Can (1), for what he was rejected.

According to PS elected officials, “this budget, with a total value of 64,4 million, is solid and reflects a commitment to strategic investments essential for the future of the municipality. The rejection of the budget by the opposition Beja Consigo Consegue and CDU represents a significant obstacle to Beja's progress. This decision will generate constraints and delays in the implementation of fundamental measures planned, and could even compromise the execution of projects vital to the development of the municipality, as: hiring new employees for Schools and the Garbage Collection service, biggest increase ever in transfers to Parishes (+460.000,00€), doubling the value of regular support to IPSS and increasing 25% the value of regular support for Choral Groups, Redevelopment of the Flávio dos Santos Stadium, in partnership with the FPF and the AFB, the paving of Zeca Afonso and Salgueiro Maia Streets, the Redevelopment of the Area Surrounding the New Palace of Justice and the reinforcement of Urban Cleaning, since the Budget 2025 included a significant amount to improve this fundamental service”.

“From January 2025, municipal management will be carried out based on the budget in force at 31 December 2024, ensuring essential functions for the functioning of the municipality”, situation that the president of the municipality reported shortly after the documents were rejected, as reported by Lidador Notícias.

Socialists justify that “in recent years, the permanent executive has sought, consistently, build bridges of dialogue with opposition, integrating proposals that contribute to the common good. In the case of the budget for 2025, several opposition suggestions were adopted, demonstrating an attitude of openness and cooperation. Regrettably, the rejection of this budget for reasons of an electoral nature harms the progress of the municipality and the well-being of its citizens. Despite this setback, the executive will maintain its commitment to working for a fairer council, developed and prosperous, with responsibility and vision of the future”, Remata.

The CDU speaks “truth” about the Budget

The recent rejection of the Municipal Budget for 2025 and the Great Options of the Plan by opposition forces, has been presented by PS elected officials in the municipality of Beja as an obstacle to the development of the municipality. However, This narrative does not reflect the reality of a management that, in the last seven years, demonstrated a lack of strategic vision and disappointing results for the municipality. It is important to remember that the permanent executive has had full control of municipal budgets during this period., having successively approved plans that did not respond to the structural needs of the municipality. This history of a management that has plunged Beja into the “greyest times” of its recent history.

The allegation that the rejection of the budget will compromise investments such as hiring workers, the reinforcement of urban cleaning or the requalification of infrastructure hides a crucial fact: These problems result directly from the inability to implement effective measures in previous budgets.

“Regrettable” statement, says Beja Can you

It's unfortunate because the critical tone, subjective and biased way in which the statement refers to councilor Nuno Palma Ferro's negative vote on the Municipal Budget 2025 it is anything but institutionally acceptable and would make sense on the local Socialist Party page or on the very busy page of president Paulo Arsénio, but never on the official website of the municipality. Once again the public and private domains are confused, nothing that constitutes news for Bejenses.

It's unfortunate because this statement is manufactured with the aim of making the reader think that Beja Can, among others, with your vote against, made a series of projects in the municipality of Beja unfeasible. What you don't mention, on purpose or not, is that the executive can present a new budget, to which we have already declared ourselves open to contributing or analyzing. The executive prefers to govern by twelfths, wearing the role of victim and passing responsibilities to the opposition. This yes, a highly electoral measure. Ultimately, not presenting a new budget proposal, It is the executive of the Socialist Party and President Paulo ArsĂ©nio who are responsible for the downfall of said projects. Also curious is the accusation that this lead “represents a significant obstacle to the progress of Beja”, when the real obstacle has been the glaring lack of capacity to execute projects by the executive led by Paulo ArsĂ©nio, president of Beja City Council for more than 7 year old.
