After a very turbulent process within the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Beja, (AHBVB), which began in October 2022, thirty years later, surrounds ax, took office again yesterday as president of the institution's board of directors for the three-year term 2024/2026.
It all started with the resignation of the president, which out of solidarity dragged all social bodies, following a very turbulent meeting with employees, which would later be reversed. Four electoral acts followed, two vacancies, one with a rejected list and the last with the re-application of the current director.
After taking possession, the president of the Board of the General Assembly, José Pedro Gonçalves, justified that “an institution with 135 year old (founded in 12 May 1989) deserves all the attention, respect and affection, although endowed with great complexity and latent conflictsâ€, adding that the management “has a program that can help a future smileâ€, concluded.
Rodia Machado recalled that the institution “has 41 wage earners, spent last year 755.000 euros in salaries for a total of 1,5 million euros of expensesâ€, justifying that “for the first time the association ended the year with a positive balance of 106.000 eurosâ€, finished.
“For this mandate, one of the main objectives is the construction of a monument in honor of the firefighter, in a prime location in the city, as a way of remembering the men and women who passed through this houseâ€, concluded.
The councilor of Beja City Council was present at the inauguration of the new management, Marisa saturnino, the commander of the Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Baixo Alentejo and Eduardo Correia, vice-president of the Portuguese Firefighters League.
