The Gynecology/Obstetrics Emergency Department at Hospital José Joaquim Fernandes, in Beja has been closed since yesterday afternoon and only reopens on Sunday, a partir the 08:00, due to the lack of specialist doctors.
Source of the Baixo Alentejo Local Health Unit (ULSBA) also indicated that the Gynecology/Obstetrics Service of the same hospital will also be closed between 08:00 e as 20:00 Saturday.
In this period, according to a notice published on the website of the National Health Service (SNS), the level contingency plan will be activated for this service 4, the most serious, which closes the service and implies the transfer of all users hospitalized due to lack of doctors on duty.
ULSBA Clinical Director, José AnÃbal, explained that during the period in which the level is triggered 4 of the contingency plan “there is no urgency and there is no service” of Gynecology/Obstetrics.
The person in charge explained, however, that the hospitalized users, “in principle”, will remain in the hospital, by “visit” at the service by a doctor residing in Beja.
“In principle, we will be able to keep them, how is a period of 12 hours [service shutdown] at the expense of a doctor who lives in Beja and will visit the users”, said.
The clinical director of ULSBA also indicated that, during the period when the services are closed, users must resort to hospitals in Évora or Faro.
