“Giving priority to local supply to the population” is the motto of today’s visit by Left Bloc deputies, the parliamentary leader, Pedro Filipe Soares and MEP José Gusmão.
According to a statement from BE, The visit to the municipality of Mértola has the following agenda: 11h00 – Meeting with the Mértola City Council, 12h00 – Meeting with the Mértola Parish Council and 2:30 pm – Departure from the Avenue (in Repuxo) and trip to Lombardos, Espírito Santo and Mosque, where water collection from the Guadiana is planned
The document recalls the proposal of the BE Parliamentary Group, in which the Assembly of the Republic approved in January 2023 the resolution 3/2013, recommending to the Government that:
Investment in the «Reinforcement of Water Supply to the Algarve – Water Intake Solution in Pomarão» project has domestic supply as its first priority, particularly the surrounding populations: in the parish of Espírito Santo, mosque, Silks, Jambuzal, Vicentes, Alcaria do Javazes, Poplar, kiss, livestock, Roncão, Boavista, windmills, Colgadeiros estate, Almunia Velha Estate; Lombards, in the parish of Mértola; and also several locations in the municipalities of Alcoutim and Castro Marim, whose supply in the summer is ensured by tankers.
With much of the country in severe or extreme drought, Bloc deputies come to the field to check the status of the Guadiana water collection project in Pomarão. The BE parliamentary group questioned the Minister of the Environment about whether the Águas do Algarve Activity Plan contemplates the provision of proximity to these populations, recommended in this AR Resolution – question no. 55/XIV/2nd.
