Castro Verde: After four months of work, Real Basilica reopens Sunday.


After 4 months of rehabilitation, Royal Basilica of Castro Verde reopens to worship.

The Royal Basilica of Castro Verde reopened for worship on Sunday, 8 of December, by 16h00, after four months of rehabilitation works (1ª fase) that beheld, it should be remembered, manual cleaning of the roof, the arrangement of doors and windows and the full painting of the monument.

In Portugal 18 basilicas, sendo a Basílica Real a mais a Sul de Portugal. In Évora there is the Sé Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, the remainder being located in Braga districts (eight), Lisbon (four), Santarém (two), Bragança and Viana do Castelo (one in each).

The ceremony for the reopening of the Royal Basilica integrates the Feast in honor of Our Lady of Conception, promoted by Castro Verde Parish, and will feature the presence of the Bishop of Beja, D. John Mark, the Assistant Secretary of State and Regional Development, Dr. Carlos Miguel, and the Municipal Mayor of Castro Verde, António José Brito.

After the reopening ceremony, will take place the Solemn Mass, followed by procession in honor of Our Lady of Conception, accompanied by the Cadet School of Firefighters Volunteers Castro Verde and the Philharmonic Band 1 January Castro Verde.

The procession will start from the Royal Basilica and pass by the Town Hall Square, Rua D. Afonso Henriques, Republic square, Fialho de Almeida Street, Largo da Feira, Rua Morais Sarmento, Republic square, Rua D. Afonso Henriques and Town Hall Square, returning again to the Royal Basilica.

The initiative has the support of the Municipality of Castro Verde.
