Castro Verde: GNR Aprea 800 kilos of stolen olives and arrests four suspects.


Three men and a woman were detained by the GNR while stealing olives, having also been seized around 800 kilos of that product, in Castro Verde municipality.

In a statement released this Saturday, the GNR said that the action was carried out on Thursday through the Castro Verde Territorial Post, do Comando Territorial de Beja da GNR.

The suspects, aged 22 and 60 year old, were arrested and accused and the facts were communicated to the AlmodĂ´var Judicial Court, you can read the statement.

Segundo a GNR, during a patrolling action carried out within the scope of the operation “Safe Field 2023”, Guard soldiers surprised the three suspects when they were stealing olives from an olive grove in Castro Verde.

“Following the action, it was possible to learn 23 bags, totaling around 800 kilos of olives, which were seized and returned to the rightful owner”, said the security force.

Just this week, the Beja Territorial Command of the GNR has already reported the seizure of close to 1,1 tons of olives stolen in that Alentejo district.

On Friday, he announced the seizure of 300 kilos of that product and the arrest of six people, in two distinct actions, in the municipalities of Aljustrel and Vidigueira (na photos).

In these operations, the Guard soldiers also seized various material related to the harvesting and collection of olives from the ground.

The GNR recalled that the harvesting of olives, even if it's lying on the floor, Without the consent of the olive grove owner, it could constitute a crime against property.

The Guard has an ongoing operation “Safe Field 2023”, with patrolling actions, awareness and monitoring, with the purpose of preventing theft crimes on agricultural properties, and to reinforce policing to dissuade and repress the practice of theft in agricultural fields.

15 October: ASAE seizes in the municipality of Ferreira do Alentejo 12 tons of olives.

An organized olive theft network was dismantled on Monday by ASAE, which seized twelve tons of “vegetable gold” in Ferreira do Alentejo.

Two stockists, who bought by the kilo 40 cents to sell it for one euro, defendants were recorded. Dozens of people were identified for theft.

On Monday, ASAE inspectors from Évora went to a warehouse in Ferreira do Alentejo, where they seized 12 tons of olives.
