Castro Verde: Municipality approves proposed regulation to attract and retain doctors.

Castro Verde City Council approved a proposal for a Regulation to attract and retain family doctors in the municipality.

The Municipality intends to contribute to ensuring and stabilizing the health care conditions of citizens, either at the Castro Verde Health Center or at existing extensions in all parishes.

Castro Verde hosts one of the main health units in Baixo Alentejo, endowed with more valences and responsiveness, as well as a Basic Emergency Service (SUB) with answer 24 hours/day that, at this time, ensures response to the municipality but also to Aljustrel, Almodovar, Ourique, Mértola and parts of Odemira.

The support contemplated in the proposed regulation points to the attribution of a function house, made available free of charge by the City Council or, Alternatively, Housing subsidy to share in the lease or in the effort to acquire or build housing of your choice. Travel subsidy is also included, assigned to clinicians placed at the Castro Verde health center who, residing outside the county area, have to travel to provide their service permanently in the municipality of Castro Verde.

These measures aim to create incentives for filling and maintaining general and family medicine clinic posts at the Castro Verde Health Center, in view of the difficulties in the number of doctors to fully cover the hours of operation of the basic emergency services of the Castro Verde Health Center and the constant concern of the reduced clinical staff necessary to fulfill the health care service of the citizens.

The respective proposal for a regulation was unanimously approved at a meeting of the Chamber and is under public consultation for a period of 30 working days, then submitted to the Municipal Assembly for approval..
