Castro Verde: Municipality is concerned about the functioning of the Basic Emergency Service.

In a statement, the Municipality of Castro Verde considers that the closure of the Basic Emergency Service at the Health Center is “an unexpected and absolutely abnormal situation”.

Castro Verde City Council became aware that the Basic Emergency Service (SUB) of the Castro Verde Health Center is expected to close, successively, for periods of 12 hours, at least six days during the month of November and, on 15, there is even the possibility of closure during 24 hours.

According to information obtained by the City Council, this truly unique situation in recent long years, occurs due to the absence of doctors, for many reasons, which limits the elaboration of the respective scales.

Given this information, the City Council established different contacts and developed efforts with the administration of the Baixo Alentejo Local Health Unit (ULSBA), of the management of the Health Center and, including, of some doctors, in order to try to minimize this serious problem as much as possible.

nevertheless, it does not seem likely that the situation will change and, worse than that, the situation for the month of December should not be much different. In other words, over a period of eight months, the Castro Verde Emergency Service has closed or will close more days than in the last eight years.

Faced with this unexpected and absolutely abnormal situation, the Municipality of Castro Verde cannot fail to express its deep apprehension. As a representative of the municipality’s population, the Municipality assumes total concern because, if a single day already means a lot of negative, this succession of days is really quite bad.

Despite not having any responsibility in this area, the Castro Verde City Council expressed its availability to ULSBA to continue providing full collaboration to overcome these situations. In addition to creating a program to retain doctors in the city with financial incentives,, the city hall also provides free facilities for doctors on duty working at the SUB and, being necessary, transport for travel.

Objectively, City Hall, even without having any competence in the field of Health, will not fail to collaborate permanently to minimize this serious problem as much as possible for the citizens of the municipality of Castro Verde and neighboring municipalities.
