Castro Verde: Municipality held a meeting with the population in defense of health services.

Castro Verde City Hall met on Friday night with the population of the municipality to analyze the situation of health care in view of the serious problems affecting Basic Emergency Care (SUB) from the Health Center, which serves four more municipalities.

The group brought together a large number of citizens, from local authorities, social entities, sports teams and dozens of anonymous citizens concerned about the recurring lack of doctors, which in the last week has led to the closure, during various hours of the day, do SUB.

The meeting revealed the “general displeasure of the population and deep apprehension” with the future predictions for the service, Lidador told the News (LN), António José Brito, President of Castro Verde City Council.

It was also decided to “appeal” to the Minister of Health to define “concrete measures, lasting and capable” of returning the functioning of the SUB to normal, also recognizing the “effort” of the Baixo Alentejo Local Health Unit (ULSBA) in the “normalization of services”, He justified the mayor.

Encourage city hall and other municipal bodies, and neighboring municipalities “reinforcing the demand” with the Ministry of Health and maintaining “the willingness to provide full collaboration” to ULSBA to minimize problems”, summarized the former journalist.

An Installation Commission for Users of Castro Verde Health Services was created, constituted, by the mayors and the four parish councils of the municipality and two other citizens, destined to lead future struggles “in defense of health, of the SUB and the Health Center”.

Inconclusive meeting with ULSBA

Last Tuesday, the presidents of the Chambers of Castro Verde, Aljustrel, Almodovar, Mértola and Ourique, all led by socialist mayors, met with the ULSBA Board of Directors, which resulted in the decision to “request a meeting with the Minister of Health. This case needs to be resolved urgently.”, adding that “the municipalities help and give everything and the Government gives us a handful of nothing”, justified.

Issue generates “exchange of pennants”, between AD (PSD-CDS) and PS.

The deputy elected by AD district of Beja, Gonçalo Valente, went public to accuse the mayors of the five socialist municipalities of “when they were in power based on a hegemonic position, holding 10 municipalities and having 2 MEPs, I have never seen them put their foot down against their Government”, maintaining that “we are faced with a case of little seriousness and respect for those who do and give the most every day. There is the desire to attack the Government”, concluded the former president of the PPD/PSD District.

Carlos Teles, President of the Municipality of Aljustrel, responded to Gonçalo Valente's criticism and accused him of being “not very attentive and careless”, because he has always been an active voice “since the time the Government was PS”, remembering that at that time the Municipality created incentives for hiring doctors, among others.
