The worker at the Neves-Corvo mine, in Castro Verde, who suffered a cardiac arrest on Friday night, in an incident at the bottom of the mine, ended up dying, revealed the company and the GNR.
According JN, the District Command Relief Operations (CDOS) from Beja told Lusa this morning that, after the accident, happened at the bottom of the mine, the miner still “was transported as a serious casualty, in cardiac arrest” for the Basic Emergency Service (SUB) Castro Verde Health Center.
But, source from the GNR Territorial Command of Beja revealed to Lusa that the man, of 36 year old, ended up dying.
According to Lusa reported this morning, citing the CDOS of Beja, a miner went into cardiac arrest after being run over by a 1200 meters deep in the Neves-Corvo mine, in Castro Verde municipality.
Na height, the CDOS also said the man had been transported to the Castro Verde SUB.
In a statement sent this morning to Lusa, the Somincor, concessionaire of the Neves-Corvo mining complex, reported that the fatal victim was “employee of a contractor”.
And, expressing regret about what happened, who qualified as a “tragic incident”, the company merely indicated that the same “occurred when the worker was operating mobile equipment at the bottom of the mine”.
Questioned by Lusa about the details of the incident and whether the worker was run over, company source declined to provide further information.
“the incident [was] registered last night [Friday] during the development of our operation at the Neves-Corvo mine”, according to the company's statement.
Source of the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) also told Lusa today that a team from the Litoral e Baixo Alentejo Local Unit of this organization, was sent to the location “immediately, even on friday night, after knowledge of the accident at work” and is “carry out inquiries.
Firefighters were alerted to 22.56 hours of Friday and the occurrence mobilized a total of six operatives, supported by three vehicles, including means of fire, GNR and National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).
On the social networks, António José Brito, Mayor of Castro Verde, has already expressed deep regret at the death of the young man from the villageâ€, addressing the deepest condolences to the family and the grooming of the mining unitâ€.
Filipe Venâncio was the last victim to 30 March
A worker at the Neves-Corvo Mine, managed by Somincor, owned by the Canadian multinational Lundin Mining Corporation, died in the early hours of Wednesday, victim of an accident at work.
Filipe Venancio, of 43 year old, Shift Leader, natural Almodovar, would have been the victim of intoxication caused by the accumulation of gases at the bottom of the mine, after a stone explosion occurred in the previous turn.
born 10 October 1978, he was married, have a minor child, player at his hometown club, the Almodovar Sports Club. He started as a footballer in the formation layers of Sporting Farense in 1994/1995, having then passed through Padernense, Desportivo de Beja, A.D.Ceuta (Spain), Lusitano from Évora, Martial, Mineiro Aljustrelense and Almodôvar. On the Sunday before his death, he scored the goal of his team's tie against Moura, in a game of the District of Beja of the 1st Division, to 90 minutes.
Another fatal accident at the Neves-Corvo Mine occurred in September 2020, when a worker died 40 year old.
