Castro Verde: Three years and six months in prison for death threats and other military offenses by the GNR.


Death threats, disobedience, resistance and coercion and injuries, there were six crimes reported to have been committed against GNR soldiers from the Castro Verde Post, that were worth, in legal height, 3 years and 6 months of effective imprisonment for an individual, already registered for the same reasons.

The accused, of 46 year old, was sentenced to the following partial sentences: two crimes of disobedience, each sentenced to nine months in prison, a crime of resistance and coercion on an employee, sentenced to two years in prison, a crime of aggravated menacing, sentenced to nine months in prison and two crimes of aggravated injury, each sentenced to one month and fifteen days in prison.

Because one of the crimes of disobedience was due to the refusal to take a quantitative blood alcohol test, ordered by the guards, after being caught driving, was also sentenced to the additional penalty of prohibition from driving vehicles of all categories for a period of one year and eight months.

During the reading of the ruling at the Beja Court, the president of the Collective of Judges, told the defendant, that “if he alone did what he did in Castro Verde, if you were in the area of ​​Lisbon where the scenes we have seen occur, One wonders what his behavior would be.”, highlighting its quezilent character.

The judge added that these events (in the Greater Lisbon area) did not influence the penalty imposed, but, “come to reinforce the need for the courts to give a signal to the community, about the rigor of everyone having to comply with the orders issued by the security forces”, concluded.

The facts date back to the night 8 January 2023, when the accused was supervised by the Guard military and disobeyed their orders. Days later, met the soldiers on the public road and theirs, in a loud and aggressive tone, shouted: “You’re going to end up in a ditch for what you tried to do last time.”, turning his back on the patrol again.

A few hours later driving drunk, he was ordered to take a blood alcohol test, having again refused. Before being handcuffed and detained, He attacked one of the soldiers with a punch to the chest and grabbed him by the neck, causing him several bruises.

The defendant has a criminal record, for committing the same type of crimes for which he was convicted, committed between 2007 and 2019, and sentenced to an effective prison sentence of 2 years and two suspended sentences of 10 and 14 months, respectively, will wait in freedom for the ruling to become final.
