The CIMBAL Main Hall, today hosted a presentation session of the “Requalification and Expansion Project for José Joaquim Fernandes Hospital – Beja”, by the President of the Board of Directors of ULSBA, to the mayors of Baixo Alentejo.
The Minister of Health and the deputies elected by the District of Beja were invited to this session.
José Carlos Queimado, accompanied by other members of the Board of Directors, presented the work produced under Order no. 12813/2023, of 14 of December, given by the previous Secretary of State for Health, Ricardo Mestre.
The project envisages the construction of a new building and the renovation of the existing one.. Remember that this Hospital has been in operation for over fifty years, the main building being clearly unsuitable for the effective provision of healthcare, both from the point of view of spaces, as well as the conditions of its technical components. It is also intended to end containerized services. This will be a structuring intervention, allowing, after its completion, access to quality public health services, to the inhabitants of Baixo Alentejo, avoiding numerous trips to other hospitals.
It will allow you to maintain your current capabilities, creating conditions for new areas: vascular surgery; dermatology; endocrinology and nutrition; nephrology; gastroenterology and rheumatology, as well as a palliative care unit.
The economic-financial feasibility study points to an investment of around ninety-six million euros, to which the VAT in force will be added.
