On 1 December last year, the Lidador News (LN), revealed that CIMBAL was going to invest 300 thousand euros, and 250 thousand euros in the acquisition of space and more 50 thousand for the association to equip itself with a cold storage, essential to preserve certain collected foods that require refrigeration.
Meanwhile, the president of the Municipality of Beja, Paulo Arsénio confirmed that CIMBAL-Comunidade Intermunicipal do Baixo-Alentejo, will soon formalize through Public Deed the acquisition of a warehouse with a useful area of 440 m², located on Rua da Lavoura in Beja, which allows you to continue, through a future transfer agreement, to the activity of the “Food Bank against Hunger in Beja” we 13 municipalities in the Community.
Global investment rises, with purchase and values ​​associated with taxes and deed, as well as acquisition of new refrigeration equipment necessary to preserve a range of foods, a € 300.000,00, with the value being distributed among 13 CIMBAL municipalities.
The Municipality of Beja will participate in the joint effort with € 51.300,00 (17,10%), having been unanimously approved at the last Chamber Meeting, held on 08/01/2025, the transfer of this amount to CIMBAL.
The “Food Bank against Hunger in Beja”, distributed in 2023 a total of € 48.563,03 in foodstuffs by 25 entities and associations in the Municipality of Beja, in a percentage of 36,32% of the total value of food distributed in 2023 in the municipalities it covers.
The “Food Bank against Hunger in Beja”, was prevented from continuing to use, since the end of the year 2024, the warehouse space it occupied, through sale to third parties in the block where it was located.
Faced with the problem, It was possible to find a quick solution as a result of easy understanding and good cooperation between 13 CIM municipalities.
Between 2020 and 2023, the “Food Bank against Hunger in Beja”, was responsible for distributing food to dozens of IPSS’s and similar associations in the territory, not worth close to € 750.000,00.
