The region of Baixo Alentejo, through CIMBAL, is one of the partner regions in the European project RESIST – Regions for climate change resilience through Innovation, Science and Technology.
RESIST has the participation of 56 partners (of 15 countries) and a total investment of 26 million (more than 5,6 million euros for Portugal).
The RESIST project promotes demonstrator projects within the framework of the mission dedicated to adaptation to climate change of the Horizon Europe program of the European Commission. One of the demonstrators of this project will be, so, developed in the Baixo Alentejo Region, under the coordination of CIMBAL.
The demonstrator to be implemented in the region focuses on the implementation of warning and alert systems, taking into account the impacts and vulnerabilities of the territory already identified in the Intermunicipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change in the lower Alentejo – PIAACBA.
The RESIST project had its second consortium meeting which took place in Turku, Finland, a 28 and 29 June 2023. The first day was dedicated to checking the status of the activities carried out in the first six months of project execution., to the communication and work developed by the demonstrators. A visit was also carried out to learn about some of the good practices implemented in Turku, namely in a newly built residential area in Pääskyvuori (natural water drainage system) e no Ribeiro Kings (renaturalization).
On the second day, there was an interactive session WORLD CAFÉ taking into account the assessment of needs/requirements, EU mission-related funding and support opportunities, among others. On this day, issues related to project management were also addressed..
It was a fruitful meeting to foster strong collaboration between all regions and stakeholders that are at the heart of the RESIST project methodology, which provides for the implementation of appropriate mutual learning structures, exchange of experiences and transfer of know-how.
