The Government approved amendments to the Highway Code that clarify the places where motorhomes can stay overnight and park, informed the Secretary of State for Internal Administration.
At the end of the Council of Ministers, to “News Minute to” Secretary of State PatrÃcia Gaspar stressed that the new changes indicate, in practice, the places where motorhomes can dock and stay overnight, highlighting what to park “it's a different thing”.
According to the governor, parking and overnight stay is only allowed in areas previously designated for the purpose, which excludes all others that are not mentioned in the diploma.
PatrÃcia Gaspar added that, for those who disrespect, the fines imposed so far remain “for improper parking and other irregularities in the Highway Code”.
The situation of caravanners staying illegally in the parks of several beaches in the country, especially in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina (PNSACV), has displeased local entrepreneurs, who complain that there is no inspection, despite the risk to public health.
In 04 of September, GNR announced that more than 600 infractions were detected during an operation aimed at inspecting illegal camping and caravanning by the sea in the districts of Setúbal, Beja e Faro.
The practice of camping or caravanning off-site, as well as any form of overnight stay, constitutes an environmental offense and punishable by a fine 200 and 36.000 euros, informed the GNR.
Vehicle parking, either cars or motorhomes, disrespecting prohibited parking signs and prohibited parking and stopping, constitutes road offense, pursuant to the combined provisions of the Highway Code and the Traffic Signaling Regulation, punishable by a fine between 60 and 300 euros.
GNR further clarified that, in relation to the ban on the presence of motorhomes or similar in parks and parking areas, has performed, in the context of the covid-19 pandemic, a more targeted follow-up for the information and awareness of the population, seeking to disclose the rules in force.
