Combating covid-19, through vaccination, started symbolically, with three of 180 professionals from Beja Hospital to whom the potion will be administered today in the fight against the pandemic.
It started this Tuesday morning at the José Joaquim Fernandes Hospital (HJJF), vaccination against covid-19 in Beja, involving professionals from the Baixo Alentejo Local Health Unit (ULSBA), affects that hospital unit linked to fighting the pandemic. Symbolically, an internist was vaccinated, a nurse from the emergency department and an operational assistant from the medical department, elements that have been working at the forefront of the battle against covid-19 since the first hour.
Throughout today and included in the first phase, will be vaccinated 180 HJJF professionals, followed by the rest 232 affects other health units identified by the ULSBA Board of Directors, as being “priorityâ€.
Professionals go through a first registration phase, then data entry at the vaccination site, followed by the administration of the vaccine and then wait for 30 minutes in a space, medically assisted, to detect possible reactions to the covid-19 potion.
Nurse Filipa Valente, one of the professionals to vaccinate colleagues, reacted with expectation, anxiety and confidence: “It is a moment of victory and hope, and the first space for improvement for all of us. Vaccination is recent, but effective and with mild reactions. It is important that everyone can do it safely â€, finished.
“It was a very worrying year and the vaccine brings the light to the end of the tunnel for next year. These professionals who are being vaccinated were selected from those who are most exposed to covid-19 â€, justified Conceição Margalha, chairman of the ULSBA Board of Directors.
Other shipments will arrive in January and the second phase of vaccination will cover the Residential Structures for the Elderly (ERPI’s), targeting professionals and users residing in these places. "It is a challenge in the provision of health care because the vaccines will be sent to the health centers in the municipalities of the ERPI's and then our professionals go to these spaces to administer the vaccines", finished the administrator.
The vaccines arrived at the Beja Hospital at 20,30 hours yesterday, involved in controversy after the blockade in Évora, by the PSP of the van that transported them and the GNR escort, but the 09,00 hours of Tuesday, vaccination started as scheduled.
