Red Cross: PCP Parliamentary Group asks the Government questions about homes in Beja.


Through deputy Alfredo Maia, journalist by profession, the Parliamentary Group of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) asked questions to labor ministers, Solidarity and Social Security and National Defense, about the «Closing of Red Cross Homes in Beja».

Maintaining that the closure of the two Residential Structures for the Elderly (ERPI) the Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) leaves users' families helpless, justifying that in the district “there is no capacity to accommodate users of both homes, since the existing ones with a protocol with Social Security are full and those that remain are private institutions at prices that families cannot afford”.

In the request, the PCP maintains that “they will also be affected 25 employees who work there and lose their jobs, leaving them helpless”, conclude.

The PCP recalls in the document that behind the closure of institutions “there are reasons of a financial nature and the degradation of buildings. In addition to the institution’s accounts being the subject of an audit requested by the Ministry of Defense”.

The Government wants to know if “it is aware of the situation in light of the announced closure, what measures will it take to safeguard the care of users residing in the two homes and the jobs and rights of the workers in question”, summarized.

It is recalled that last day 15 January, the Lidador News (LN) revealed that “the Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) will close the two Residential Structures for the Elderly (ERPI) which it owns in the city of Beja, that has 25 workers and around six dozen users”.

Na height, faced with the question posed by LN, the CVP justified that “it is actively, and in coordination with other competent entities, looking for the best solution for the entire community covered by ERPI’s”, adding that the institution “is committed to the users of the residences, their families and all the employees who work there every day.”, remataram.
