Red Cross: Solidarity movement and protest against closures and layoffs.

The “Beja Red Cross Movement” (MCVB) created to defend workers and users of the institution's homes, it will hold a protest action tomorrow at Casa de Repouso José António Marques, quote on Rua dos Infantes, in Beja.

According to a document issued by the MCVB, “the action of solidarity and protest is against the closure of Red Cross homes in Beja”, and is scheduled for 3:45 pm and aims to “safeguard users and defend jobs”.

The Movement calls for “the participation of users’ families, of workers and the population”.

It is recalled that on 15 January this year, the Lidador News (LN) revealed that the Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) was going to close the two Residential Structures for the Elderly (ERPI) which it owns in the city of Beja, who at the time had 25 workers and around six dozen users.

Na height, the CVP justified that “it is actively, and in coordination with other competent entities, looking for the best solution for the entire community covered by ERPI’s”, adding that the institution “is committed to the users of the residences, their families and all the employees who work there every day.”, remataram.

At a meeting held on the 19 April, Antonio Saraiva, presidente da CVP, met with family members of users and then with workers and announced that the two ERPIs were going to close, to 31 July,

Around two and a half dozen workers are unemployed and there are 37 users with no solution in sight. As two ERPI's, Henry Dunant and José António Marques Nursing Homes, they had 57 users, but stop 20 solutions were found by CVP and family members.

The worst news that Lidador Notícias (LN) had advanced last day 15 January, when he revealed the closure of ERPI’s, the departure of workers and that users’ families would be left with “a serious problem to solve”.

Last Wednesday, Lidador Notícias had access to a letter from the National Directorate (DN) of the CVP sent to the ERPI's techniques, with the request to “send to the users’ families”, where it is stated that “Social Security announced that the Lar de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, in Barrancos, makes available to this institution (CVP) seven vacancies (4 vacancies for women and 3 vacancies for gentlemen) for the integration of users of our equipment, Henry Dunant and José António Marques Nursing Homes”, justified.
