The second municipality with the highest cumulative incidence in Portugal of cases of covid-19, already caused the third most deadly outbreak in homes in the district.
The outbreak of covid-19 in the Home of Santa Casa da Miseric贸rdia de Cuba (SCMC), no Beja district, already provoked 11 deaths between seventy and seventy-three users of the institution, that has 85 positive cases, 58 users and 27 officials.
Infected users, some are admitted to the Jos茅 Joaquim Fernandes Hospital, in Beja, while employees who tested positive are recovering in their homes.
Care for SCMC users is being ensured by non-infected institution staff and members of the Portuguese Red Cross intervention brigades and workers hired from companies specializing in this type of service.
The outbreak at the Santa Casa da Miseric贸rdia home is the 鈥渢ip of the iceberg鈥 of the extremely complicated situation in the municipality, where according to the latest data from the Local Health Unit of Baixo Alentejo (ULSBA), has 242 active cases and 17 deaths.
As 11 deaths in the Miseric贸rdia home, are only surpassed by 12 occurred in the mansion of S茫o Jos茅, in Beja, in the outbreak in late October and early November last year and the 22 of 10 鈥淏lack days鈥 for the current month of January, at the home of Santa Casa da Miseric贸rdia de M茅rtola.
According to the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), the Municipality of Cuba is the second in Portugal with regard to the rate of infections per thousand inhabitants, where the cumulative incidence to 14 days, between 5 and 18 January, movie director 6224 cases, being considered an extremely high risk municipality in terms of contagions.
