Culture: Collective Photography Exhibition “Beja - Terra Sonora”


The Municipality of Beja opened yesterday at the UNESCO Center for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Beja, the Collective Photography Exhibition “Beja - Terra Sonora”.

The exhibition, which marks the rise of Fado and Cante, a Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, will be open to the public, between 7 November 2020 and 15 January 2021, visitable in the new schedule of this cultural equipment.

“Beja - Terra Sonora”, is a collective exhibition by Ricardo Zambujo, Susana Teixeira, Miguel Valente, Ana Espinho and José Espinho, who accepted the challenge of the Municipality and portrayed in photography those who are the local “ambassadors” of Fado and Cante, our choral groups, fadistas and musicians.

This project involved 19 Choral Groups and 20 artists, between fadistas, singers and musicians.

The photography exhibition “Beja - Terra Sonora” starts and integrates a vast cultural program that the Municipality dedicates to Fado and Cante, where these heritage sites also meet Flamenco, Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since 2013, the poets of Amália Rodrigues and classical music: Tertúlia Musicalidades with Padre Cartageno and Rão Kyao, 8 November, no UNESCO Center, at 15:00; The Poets of Amália Rodrigues, 13 November, at the municipal library, by 18:30; Camané and Mário Laginha, 13 November, at Pax Júlia, by 20h00; Beringel Singers and Marco Rodrigues, 27 November, at Pax Júlia, by 20h00; Roots – Fado and Flamenco, 28 November, at Pax Júlia, at 8 pm and Carlos Guilherme and Teresa Tapada, 17 of December, no Pax Julia, by 20h00
