A APDA – Portuguese Association of Distribution and Water Drain, through the Specialized Commission for Communication and Environmental Education, which is part of a technical team from EMAS de Beja, once again challenges the entire country to mark World Water Day, 22 March, with the H2Off Movement, in other words, turn off the tap at 10pm during 60 minutes.
The objective of the initiative, which runs for the fourth consecutive year, is based on this symbolic action, which aims to raise awareness of the inestimable and precious value of water. Water scarcity is at the center of all attention, being a challenge for humanity.
In the case of Portugal it reaches, in particular, the Alentejo and Algarve regions, but, Finally, a growing awareness begins to emerge, among stakeholders to the need to achieve a future with water for all. The way forward, that has to be global, requires a cooperative transformation in the approach to the management of water resources and their respective ecosystems.
In this 4th edition of H2Off, and on the basis that every gesture counts towards effectively raising awareness of the true value of water, the need for greater proactivity and work to boost the civic movement is reinforced, allowing it to be given a more comprehensive expression and broad involvement of organizations, central and local authorities and, fundamentally, people.
It is in this context of encouraging awareness and responsibility of each, that APDA and the Specialized Commission for Communication and Environmental Education invite Portugal to participate in H2Off – A Hora da Água, and EMAS naturally integrates this movement.
