The septuagenarian who, how JN advanced, was extradited to Spain last week for belonging to an international cartel that controlled Beja Airport to introduce large quantities of cocaine into Europe.
This Tuesday, the Judicial Police (PJ) confirmed that an investigation lasting more than a year, “focused on the illicit activities of several national and foreign citizens who were part of the national logistical support component” to a criminal organization, that “it was preparing to introduce large quantities of drugs into the European continent, through an airport in Portugal, another in the United Kingdom and from Spanish ports, counting, for this purpose, with the support of employees from those structures”.
“The Judicial Police (PJ) e o National Police Corps, in Spain, with the support of Europol, carried out two police operations, in both countries, which resulted in the dismantling of a transnational criminal network dedicated to the introduction of large quantities of cocaine into the European continent and in which they were detained 25 citizens of different nationalities”, reads a statement.
Six detained in Portugal
In Portugal, adds PJ, “operation “FOSSIL”, developed by the National Unit to Combat Drug Trafficking, translated into the detention of six citizens, carrying out nine home searches and, yet, in the seizure of various assets, namely, five high-end cars, large amounts of cash, hardware, documentation and small amounts of drugs and anabolic steroids”.
“The investigation began following the exchange of information within the framework of international police cooperation and allowed the development and use of different legal tools, including a European arrest warrant, which enabled the PJ, in close cooperation with the police authorities of the Kingdom of Spain, proceed with the arrest of the main person responsible for the logistics structure that operated in national territory that imported drugs to the European continent”.
With 71 years and a vast record, the cell leader is, outs PJ, “police recognized, in international terms, as a “High Value Target”, in other words, a suspect of high criminal relevance in the underworld of illicit drug trafficking”.
In Spain, within the same operation, there dubbed the “NKONO-PORTO” operation, were realized, last October, several steps that culminated in the arrest of 19 citizens of different nationalities, as well as the seizure of approximately 460 kg of cocaine.
