Army: Colonel Joaquim Branquinho attends the course for general officer.


The officer leaves command of the Infantry Regiment today 13, in Vila Real and will attend the course for promotion to general officer at the Instituto Universitário Militar.

Just over a year after being promoted to colonel, 16 December 2020, the officer faces one of the biggest professional challenges of life in the military career aiming at promotion to Brigadier General.

Colonel Joaquim Manuel de Mira Branquinho, He was born in Évora, has 53 years old and 33 years of service, as many years as he has lived in Beja and is regarded in the military as “a son of RI3 (Beja) and a very competent officer”. The officer held several positions in that unit that was extinguished in 1 August 2015, giving rise to RI1, unit that was based in Tavira. Promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in 29 May 2009, was commander of the 2nd Infantry Regiment No. 3 and Infantry Regiment No. 1, having between 16 December 2020 and today held the position of commander of the Infantry Regiment 13, Vila Real.

In 3 January 2019, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, awarded the official, who then served as Deputy to the Chief of the General Staff of the Army, with the Military Order of Avis, Comendador degree, according to an order of the Chancery Portuguese Honors, the Presidency.

Re-assigned to Infantry Regiment No. 3 and later in Infantry Regiment no. 1 served as 2nd Commander; Starting in September 2016, served as Deputy of S. Former General Chief of Staff of the Army and since 01 October 2019 served as Head of the Support Office of the Training Directorate.
