Fª Alentejo: House worried about the future of the post of the Knights of Figueira GNR.
The Ferreira do Alentejo City Council and Figueira dos Cavaleiros Parish Council, met with the Assistant Secretary of State and Home Affairs, in Lisbon, on the future of the Figueira dos Cavaleiros GNR Headquarters.
This hearing came after members of the Ferreira do Alentejo Citizens' Security Council, have manifested, last December 2015, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, his concern about the eventual closure of the Territorial Post of the GNR of Figueira dos Cavaleiros.
According to Lidador Notícias found by a source from the GNR District Command, the building is closed since the day 15 December 2014, reopened the Ferreira do Alentejo post, after a few years ended and after requalification works evaluated in 600 thousand euros and “it is not in future Guarda projects to use that infrastructure”.
It is recalled that the infrastructure of Figueira de Cavaleiros was built from scratch in October 2002 and it cost close to 850 thousand euros.
In March 2003, the village population manifested itself in the same, demanding its opening, at the time, the Junta de Freguesia defended that the new GNR barracks, should open together with Ferreira do Alentejo, covering three parishes (Figueira of the Knights, Canhestros and Odivelas), a total of about three thousand inhabitants.
Na height, John Paul Ramôa, the Civil Governor rebutted the arguments of the mayors. “In 2002, in that area of Figueira dos Cavaleiros, They were verified 32 occurrences in terms of crime and 48 road accidents, which, compared to other areas in the district, is reduced”.
