Fª Alentejo: They sold drugs at the courthouse, schools and commercial establishments.


Two men who were detained last year, in Ferreira do Alentejo, in a process in which they were seized 1.650 doses of cocaine, 48 of hashish and 13 of liamba and 3.588 euros cash, start now on trial before the Court of Beja.

Manuel Nobre, of 55 year old, and Paulo Costa, of 30 year old, both in preventive detention at the Beja Prison, are accused of co-authoring and consummating the crime of drug trafficking. Manuel Nobre committed the crime mentioned above in a way that was aggravated by recidivism, and is also accused of a crime of possession of a prohibited weapon,

By final and unappealable ruling in June 2014, the defendant was sentenced to six years in prison for the crime of drug trafficking, having been granted parole. In September last year, two months before the facts for which he will be tried and is in pre-trial detention, was sentenced to the penalty of 2 years and 10 months of effective imprisonment for committing a crime of qualified theft.

According to the indictment order of the public prosecutor (MP) from Ferreira do Alentejo to which Lidador Notícias (LN) had access “the defendants made sales/deliveries of narcotic products near the doors of residences, other times, in the immediate vicinity of the court, primary school and several commercial establishments in the village”.

In one of the cases described by the investigation carried out by the GNR and which lasted six months, It is described that during the year of 2021, Manuel Nobre sold it to one of the consumers “once a week, in total 30 times, cocaine for the value of 60 euros every time”, which translates into a “recipe” for 1.800 euros. The process has 27 witnesses, the overwhelming majority that the investigation identifies as consumers who purchased drugs from the two defendants.

On 2 November 2022, when the operation was triggered, carried out by military personnel from the Criminal Investigation Unit (NIC) the Aljustrel when GNR, beyond drugs and money, four cell phones were seized, three precision scales, six knives, a blowtorch, a laptop, four watches and several gold pieces.

Given the dangerousness of the defendants, the action was reinforced by operatives from the NIC and the Criminal Information and Investigation Section. (SIIIC) and the Intervention Detachment (OF).
