The Bishop of Beja, Fernando Paiva, warned, Thursday, that someone created a fake profile on the social network Facebook with your name to try to scam people, admitting to moving forward with a complaint to the Judiciary Police (PJ).
“I rarely use social media and I don't use my Facebook profile for communication, much less to ask for money, which is what [who created] this fake profile is doing”, the Alentejo prelate told the Lusa agency.
Fernando Paiva said that he was warned about the existence of the fake account on Facebook “a week or two ago”, highlighting that that profile even “has been reported several times by friends and acquaintances”.
“We took steps to report the profile and I believe it disappeared, but, after, reappeared and we started the process again”, forward, highlighting that the fake account is now active again.
Noting that the Diocese of Beja has alerted the community and reported that profile on the social network itself, the bishop said he was considering filing a complaint with the PJ.
“I think that's all we need to do”, He stressed.
The prelate considered that “many people clearly understand that it is a fake profile”, recognizing, however, what “There will always be one person or another who can fall into this trap.”.
In a statement published on its website, the Diocese of Beja indicated that the fake profile has the name of “Dom Fernando Paiva” and that, from this account, “They are, via Messenger [social network instant messaging], sending messages asking for money”.
“Anyone who received such contact should report it and believe it is false. This never came from the bishop of Beja, There isn't even any Facebook profile with that name that belongs to Fernando Paiva”, he added.
