Ferreira do Alentejo: Firefighters attacked by group of individuals from the gypsy community.

Two firefighters from the Ferreira do Alentejo corporation were the target of physical attacks, Monday, in the evening, while carrying out a fueling operation from a tanker in a borehole close to the village's football field.

According to information obtained from a source close to the corporation, the operatives were approached by a group of individuals belonging to the gypsy community, what, without apparent reasons, began a verbal confrontation that quickly escalated to physical aggression.

The firefighter involved in the incident managed to escape the scene, but the firefighter who accompanied her was violently attacked, needing to be transported to Beja Hospital, where he received medical care. That source reported that the group demonstrated resistance to the use of the hole by firefighters, although there is no clear explanation for such opposition. The same source also indicated that this is not the first time that similar conflict situations have occurred..

The Ferreira do Alentejo Volunteer Fire Brigade, together with the victims, will file a formal complaint with the authorities, demanding determination of responsibilities and measures to prevent future incidents.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by emergency professionals, who often risk their lives to protect populations and, unfortunately in many cases, face hostile behaviors that put their physical and emotional integrity at risk.
