Air Force: Embraer KC-390 makes the first landing at Lajes Base (Azores).

The Brazilian KC-390 freighter manufactured by Embraer made its first visit to the American air base based in Portuguese territory.

Registration FAP-25901, the jet is the first and only KC-390 in service with the Portuguese Air Force. The aircraft is already in full operation, ranging from transporting helicopters to missions with NATO.

Now the jet has made its first landing at Lajes International Airport, Azores. In this place, in addition to the civil airport with large SATA operations (Azores Airlines), there is also the US Air Base.

With the American name of Lajes Field, the airport serves as an important parking point for US aircraft, main of the Air Force (USAF) who transit between the country, Europe and the Middle East.

It is common to see several F-22 Raptor fighters, A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft and KC-10 refuelers at the Lajes yard. The Americans have their own facilities within the 65th Air Base Group.

The use of this base is a precedent for NATO/NATO and began in World War II, with the US closing a formal agreement with Portugal after the end of the war, where that country pays to use the space in Lajes, which is the only American base on Portuguese soil.

The arrival of the KC-390 in Lajes was captured by the Islandaviation channel Terceira Azores, which records the movement, mainly from American military planes, in Terceira Island: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wGnil3ujbU&t=191s
