According to the website aeroin.net, Embraer advances with the test campaign of the first KC-390 aircraft for the Portuguese Air Force (FAP). The first deliveries are scheduled for 2023.
According to aeroin.net, activities carried out at the Embraer unit in Gavião Peixoto, in the interior of the State of São Paulo, are focused on flight tests with the objective of meeting the specific requirements of the Portuguese State and which are under certification by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and the Institute for Industrial Promotion and Coordination (IFI).
This phase precedes the arrival of the aircraft to Portugal, where standard NATO equipment will be integrated (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) to be certified by the National Aeronautical Authority (AT), of Portugal and with the involvement of the General Aeronautical Material Workshops (ogma), Embraer subsidiary in Portugal. As part of the process of modernizing FAP's capabilities to support the operations of the Armed Forces of Portugal, increasing readiness for public interest missions, the Government of Portugal signed, in August 2019, a contract with Embraer for the acquisition of five KC-390 Millennium aircraft. The aircraft meets all FAP requirements, being able to carry out various civilian missions, including humanitarian support, medical evacuation, search and rescue and forest fire fighting, adding superior cargo and troop transport and launch capabilities, and in-flight refueling.
