The 601 Squadron-“Lobos”, has contributed, since last week, for the surveillance of rural fires with surveillance actions in the national territory, in areas at greatest risk of occurrence.
“Before or after completing the usual maritime patrol missions in the vast area under national responsibility, the P-3C Cup+ aircraft has also flown over areas with the highest risk of fire in mainland Portugal”, revealed the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) on your website.
Since the beginning of this initiative, according to FAP, “eight fires have already been detected in the municipalities of Braga, Viseu and Paços de Ferreira, that despite being in their initial state, were already being controlled by firefighters on site”, justify.
“Fire outbreaks were also detected in Lousada and Ponte de Lima without the visible presence of firefighters at the scene.. All detected events were promptly reported to the competent authorities”, completed the Air Force.
Squadron 601-“Lobos” is headquartered at the Air Base 11, in Beja, It was established in March 1986, having been assigned as its primary mission to carry out maritime patrolling and detection operations, location, tracking and attacking submarines and surface assets, and as a secondary mission to carry out search and rescue and mining operations.
