Air Force: Portugal will soon buy A-29 Super Tucano aircraft from Embraer.

Embraer should soon have its first sale of the Super Tucano in NATO standard, with the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) acquiring the light ground attack model.

The A-29N was launched a few years ago by Embraer and is a “NATO Ready” aircraft., in other words, uses the same communications and data systems as the North Atlantic Alliance standard, as well as the KC-390 freighter.

Therefore, It is not necessary for the plane, which is a leader in the light attack category, be modified to operate within NATO, which always values the standard as it is a multinational alliance.

And in this context, Portugal opted for the aircraft, as recently announced by the Minister of Defense, Nuno Melo: “When it comes to the defense industries, another point that we identified as a priority, We are currently finalizing what will be the realization of an aircraft in the image of the KC-390, which has given great results, let's face it, but an Embraer-based ground attack aircraft, with Portuguese technology incorporated in a project that will see the light of day and that will be legally approved, moving from plan to political and legislative implementation very soon, I’m referring to the Super Tucano and a munitions factory”.

The role of this aircraft in the FAP will be to fill the gap left by the Alpha-Jet advanced training jets, who have already dropped out of the Portuguese service, as well as supporting the Army in land conflicts, mainly in the UN mission in the Central African Republic.
