Investment to reinforce water supply in the Algarve was revised upwards, starting to cost more 36 million. The work has a base price of 101 million and an execution period of one year and three months.
The international public tender for the water collection contract in Pomarão, to reinforce the water supply in the Algarve was launched yesterday. The project, with financing from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), it will cost 109 million.
In a statement, the Ministry of Environment and Energy indicates that the work, which will be divided into three lots, has a base price of 101 million euros and a deadline of 460 days, in other words, one year and three months.
This project, planned not PRR, integrating component C09, had been the subject of a request for an increase in the investment value by Águas do Algarve, of 72,8 million for 109 million, funds that cover the project and studies, what was authorized by the supervisory minister, considering the opinions issued by the Water and Waste Services Regulatory Entity (ERSAR), explains the Government in the same note sent to newsrooms.
The capture of water in Pomarão constitutes one of the measures foreseen in the Algarve Regional Water Efficiency Plan and will allow for an increase in 30 annual cubic hectometers the resilience and hydraulic capacity of the water supply system for human consumption in the Algarve, according to government data.
The work consists of capturing surface water in the estuarine zone of the Guadiana River, next to the village of Mesquita, upstream of Pomarão, in the Mértola municipality, district of Beja, through a pipeline to the Odeleite reservoir, in Castro Marim, Faro district, where the collected water will be returned, according to previously released information.
Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho will be in Faro tomorrow, to formalize the launch of the public infrastructure tender, “possible thanks to understanding with Spain”, as well as to preside over the signing of protocols that will bring water for human consumption to the Espírito Santo and Mesquita villages, in Mértola, and for the rehabilitation of the Castro Marim sanitation network.
