IPBeja: Presentation of the SAPIEN Center of Excellence.


It takes place on Monday afternoon, the public presentation of SAPIEN – South and Atlantic Pedagogical Innovation & Excellence Network, a consortium that integrates the Polytechnic Institute of Beja.

The University of Évora is part of the consortium., Universidade Nova de Lisboa, University of Madeira, University of Algarve, University of the Azores, Egas Moniz School of Health & Science, Polytechnic Institute of Beja, Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre and Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal.

Uniting the wills and efforts of nine Higher Education Institutions that include a total of 53 Organic Units and cover 40% of Portuguese territory (extending across the region south of the Tagus and expanding to the Azores and Madeira), the SAPIEN Center of Excellence, created and funded by funds from the NextGeneration EU program through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) More Digital, of the Portuguese Republic, invests in the development of an institutional culture that encourages innovation and pedagogical excellence, encourages the sharing of experiences and promotes the professional development of teaching.

The majority of higher education teachers began their duties as teachers without having had any specific training to exercise this profession.. However, Teaching in Higher Education poses several challenges that require adequate preparation, namely of a pedagogical nature.

Training Teaching and learning in Higher Education, promoted by the SAPIEN Consortium and implemented as a micro-credential, constitutes a relevant basic training for teaching in higher education, presenting diverse methods and strategies for teaching and evaluating student learning, adequate resources to support teaching and learning, namely digital resources, and ways to prepare and conduct teaching practices.
