IPBeja: Presented “Herdade do Outeiro: Strategic Vision 2030”.


Last day 15 January, took place, in the amphitheater of the Escola Superior Agrária, the pre-presentation of the results of the study “Herdade do Outeiro: Strategic Vision 2030”.

The event featured several dozen participants who had previously integrated the thematic sessions, contributing, with your reflections and opinions, for the construction of the future strategic vision of Herdade do Outeiro.

In this session was presented the strategic vision defined by IPBEJA for Herdade do Outeiro, centered on the transformation of a part of the extensive property into an investigation hub, Development and competitive innovation in response to global challenges of “agriculture of the future” and fully aligned with the policies and strategy defined by the European Union.

The study presented is composed of 6 main sections, where the current skills of Herdade do Outeiro are presented, followed by the methodological approach, strategy 2030 and the operational plan, as well as the monitoring and assessment mechanisms of compliance with indicators.

The study identified eleven thematic domains that bring together fundamental scientific and technological skills and knowledge to position Herdade do Outeiro as a center of excellence in I&Di focused on “Agriculture of the future”. The thematic domains identified were: (1) Prado; (2) biodiversity; (3) Production; (4) Sustainable eating systems; (5) Nutrition and Health; (6) Forest; (7) Energy; (8) Climate change and sustainability; (9) Tourism and Culture; (10) Entrepreneurship and Training; (11) Digitization.

The operational plan that is proposed is structured in three phases that are differentiated by the levels of maturity, namely:

  • Fase I – Corresponds to preparatory steps that encompass the study and planning, legal constitution, Construction/Restoration and cleaning of spaces, reproach, among others, to create the ideal conditions to start the operation/activity of the I Polo&D For Future Agriculture, including laboratories and experimentation fields, House-Museum and Library, recreational activities, tourist and leisure.
  • Fase II – Encompasses the steps ranging from the start of the activity of the pole of I&D until the full functioning of the different sectors of knowledge. Also encompasses the beginning of the operation of the House-Museum, Library, recreational activities, tourist and leisure, Until its full operation.
  • FASE 3 – Includes steps dedicated to leverage the full operation activities practiced in Herdade do Outeiro, consolidating its national position and its international expansion.

The study provides for the realization until 2030 investments with measurable social and environmental impact on the territory of 15 million, mostly supported by financing instruments obtained individually or in cooperation with other organizations.
