A meeting of the General Council was held yesterday, advisory body of the Polytechnic Institute of Beja (IPBeja), with the objective of analyzing the current situation in the institution with the resignations of the eight directors and deputy directors of the four schools.
A source from the General Council revealed to Lidador NotĂcias (LN) that “we were two hours from stone. We gave a favorable opinion on the dismissal/exoneration of the eight resigned. A new meeting was scheduled for the next day. 6 Feb., where the president will present the new directors and deputy directors by appointees”, concluded.
According to found the LN, there will be some intransigence on the part of teachers from the various IPBeja schools to take the places of their resigned colleagues, being common voice that the president will resort to teachers external to the institution, namely from educational establishments in Évora and Portalegre.
As the LN revealed the 7 of December, it all started with the dismissal of the eight elements that made up the boards of the four higher schools of the Institute, joint application submitted two days before, to the president of the institution, Maria de Fatima Carvalho, “due to disagreement with its decisions”.
But the situation got worse after last day 13, statements by Maria de Fátima Carvalho were published in the “Diário do Alentejo”, considered as “undisguised attacks” that the resignations consider that they were lined up in the New Year's message addressed to the Academic Community by the president.
At the beginning of last week, in a document issued by the eight resigning, they consider that Maria de Fátima Carvalho’s statements were “in all respects offensive to our honor and our good name, the same can be said of the accusations of despair and the assertion of untruths”.
