The presidency of the Polytechnic Institute of Beja (IPBeja) declared “three days of institutional mourning, with display of the flag at half-mast” upon the death of Gefrison Candé, student of the Computer Engineering course at the Higher School of Technology and Management (evening), occurred on Sunday afternoon during a football game in Mértola.
On behalf of the entire community, the institution offered Candé’s family “the most sincere condolences”, deeply regretting the death of the young Guinean who had been studying at IPBeja for several years, living in one of its Student Residences, and that he should complete his degree this year. Resulting from protocols with countries of origin for several years that dozens of PALOP students, take their degrees in the four higher schools at the Institute.
Also the direction of the Beja Football Association (AFBeja) went public to mourn Gefrison's death, which a few weeks ago had completed 28 years of age and “addresses the most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends, as well as the entire structure of Futebol Clube Albernoense, team where the Guinean played.
At the weekly management meeting, AFBeja must decree a minute of silence in all events to be held next weekend in the competitions it organizes, it is guaranteed that the game between Albernoense and Cabeça Gorda to be held next Saturday, 13 January, in Albernoa Field, was immediately postponed.
Also the president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Fernando Gomes, expressed his regret and offered condolences to the family, player's clubs and friends, must be present at the player's funeral ceremonies.
