The Judge of Law Maria das Mercês do Nascimento, appointed to the position of Judge President of the Judicial Court of the District of Beja, takes office next Friday.
Natural Beja, Maria das Mercês do Nascimento, was appointed to the service commission, for a period of three years, position held effectively since the previous day 1 January. The inauguration will take place at 11:15 am, in the main room of the Beja Palace of Justice.
The deliberation of the Ordinary Plenary of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM), of 10 December last year, was published in the Diário da República three days later. In 19 November and with effect from 1 of December, the magistrate had been appointed as a replacement for the previously President Judge, António Silva, in the presidency of the District, who held the post since 5 January 2021, and until the appointment of a new President Judge, ending up being subsequently confirmed as the effective president.
The Law Judge, Maria Mercês do Nascimento, is the first judge born in the city and is also the first woman to preside over the Judicial Court of the District of Beja, that encompasses 14 judgments, being one of proximity, after the judicial reorganization of 2014. The judge is the granddaughter of Armando Nascimento, former football referee, who was given the name of the Beja Referee Center.
Professional path
With a career in the judicial judiciary that began in 2010, at the Barreiro Court, Judge Maria das Mercês Cruz Nascimento later served in several courts in Alentejo. In 2012, was placed in the Évora Sentence Execution Court, subsequently passing through the courts of Ferreira do Alentejo, Beja and Odemira. From 2019, performs functions in the central civil and criminal court of Beja.
Take over now, on service commission, the presidency of the Judicial Court of the District of Beja, position he will hold for three years.
