The PSP Traffic Police agent denied having assaulted the Ukrainian citizen, denying having consumed alcoholic beverages. Discrepancy between defendant and witness about whether or not the victim speaks Portuguese.
“There was no aggression against the individual.. In the parking lot of the police station, he sat on the floor and as he was handcuffed with his hands behind his back, fractured his arm. I deny any kicks or sticks. It is pure lie”, said yesterday Eurico Santos, Beja's PSP agent, of 45 year old, who began to stand trial for the beatings and torture of Aleksander Buiniakov, a Ukrainian citizen of 40 year old, denying having ingested alcoholic beverages as accused by the victim and other friendly citizens.
The agent explained that the detainee “jumped onto the road and in front of the car started making gestures and told me that he liked to play with the police”, justifying that “because he did not have documents, he was taken to the police, but would end up showing the passport. Refused to sign any document, on account of having been illegally detained.”, concluded.
“He felt unwell and I was the one who called the 112, who did not show up at the scene and made myself available to take him to the hospital, what he refused”, ensuring that the victim spoke Portuguese.
António Oliveira, owner of the transport company who was at the scene when the agent handcuffed the Ukrainian citizen and in the face of the events “I called the police station to report what was happening and they said that the colleague belonged to traffic”, adding that he went to the Traffic Police Station where he picked up all the workers “having left the victim in the hospital. I didn’t understand what he was saying because he didn’t speak Portuguese.”, concluded.
The incident took place in the early hours of the day 12 November 2019, cerca the 06,00 hours in an artery in the vicinity of the Hospital de Beja and had the epilogue next to the Traffic Police, place where he was taken to be questioned.
The ten witnesses of Ukrainian nationality who were present at the facts alleged against the accused were not present, for having traveled to their country of origin, going to be notified to attend the next day 16 November. The trial continues on Friday with the hearing of the attestation witnesses.
