Justice: Trio of São Teotónio drug dealers sentenced to 14 years and 3 months in prison.


Three individuals, aged between 25 and 59 year old, residents in the parish of São Teotónio, county of Odemira, were on Friday sentenced to 14 years and 3 months in prison, Hair crime of drug trafficking.

The penalties were applied by a panel of judges of the Court of Beja.

Xavier Viana, of 25 year old, He was sentenced to 6 years in prison for drug trafficking, Luís Furtado, of 46 year old, 5 years and 9 months in prison in legal cumulation, and 5 by traffic and 2 for possession of a prohibited weapon and António Tavares, of 59 year old, a 2 years and 6 months in prison, suspended for the same period. Xavier and Luís will continue in preventive detention at the Beja Prison, awaiting the final judgment of the convictions.

The trio was part of a drug sales network that supplied consumers in various locations in the municipality of Odemira and also in the neighboring Odeceixe, already in the Algarve, being that Xavier, justified the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the indictment “he is frequently filmed handling huge amounts of banknotes and large amounts of narcotic product”, which revealed an exhibitionist character”, adding that he “made purchases/sales by the kilo, carrying out transactions of 4.500 euros”, accused.

The prosecution argued that the defendant had purchased a BMW car, but he denied it and that he registered it in favor of the parent to cover up the alleged huge profits from drug trafficking. The defense provided evidence that a credit agreement was entered into with a specialist company, with a payment plan 10 year old, with a reservation of title in favor of that entity.

held at 13 July 2021, to the three individuals, the GNR seized 300 doses of cocaine, 190 of MDMA, 172 of cannabis, 96 of amphetamines and 21 of hashish, five light vehicles, 1.710 euros in cash, a caliber pistol 6,35 mm, a caliber carbine .22 with telescopic sight, a compressed air gun and three precision scales.

In the arresting operation of the three traffickers, in addition to the military of the Criminal Information and Investigation Section (SIIC) Territorial Command Beja, reinforcements from the Cinotécnica Intervention Group were employed (GIC) Intervention Unit (UI).
