Alentejo Railway Line: PS deputies question the closure of the Casa Branca-Beja section due to 21 months.

Will it even be necessary to close 21 months the Casa Branca-Beja section?. It was one of the questions asked by Socialist Party Deputies.

Nelson Brito, Hugo Costa and Ricardo Pinheiro addressed a set of questions to the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing related to the announced closure of the Alentejo railway line, between Casa Branca and Beja, during modernization works.

In the text framing the questions raised to the Government, PS elected officials in the Assembly of the Republic emphasize that the modernization of railway infrastructure is “essential for the development of the regions†but say they fear the closure of the Casa Branca line – Kiss during 21 months as foreseen in the Portuguese Infrastructure plan.

The concerns expressed by the population and mayors were expressed in the document., heard by PS Deputies, who fear that this closure will be prolonged beyond the 21 months, which would cause serious inconvenience to everyone who uses the train on the Alentejo line.

The Deputies intend to know the technical studies that support the need to completely close the line and question the possibility of carrying out the work without the total suspension of the Casa Branca – Beja section, solution already implemented in other similar interventions in the country.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing is also questioned about the existence of additional investment plans that include the reopening of the Beja – Funcheira section and the rail connection to Beja Airport.

Remember that the clarification about the closure of the railway was given by the president of the Municipality of Beja, in camera meeting, in which Paulo Arsénio explained that “Beja will stay for two years, predictably between 2027 and 2029, no trains to Lisbon. The interruption will occur during the period in which the electrification works on the Beja-Casa Branca railway line will take placeâ€, concluded.
