Mértola: Municipal Assembly approves Historic Budget for 27 million.


The Mértola Municipal Assembly approved the budget for 2024 City Hall. This historic budget 27 million, reflects the municipality’s commitment to boosting local development.

The budget 27 million euros allows to finance a series of projects and initiatives that aim to improve the quality of life and promote sustainable economic growth in Mértola, namely the execution of 3 major works in the territory: the Biodiversity Gallery, the Heritage Center and the Mértola Biological Station. It is also planned to carry out the project for the New Industrial Expansion Zone and the Mértola – Fernandes – Pomarão cross-border connection. In the budget for 2024, It is this executive's intention to continue improving the road network, provide more locations with basic sanitation and respective streets, without forgetting the much-needed social support for families in the municipality.

Also present in this budget is the significant reduction in the Personal Income Tax rate (IRS) to the legal minimum possible. This initiative aims to provide direct financial relief to local taxpayers, demonstrating the authority's concern in promoting a fair and equitable fiscal policy.

Additionally, the municipality implements a reduction in Municipal Property Tax (IMI), aiming to stimulate real estate activity and facilitate access to housing. This reduction in IMI not only encourages the rehabilitation of housing, but also seeks to boost the local real estate market.

The Mayor of Mértola, Mario Thomas, expresses the importance of this budget as a catalyst for the growth of Mértola, emphasizing the municipality's commitment to balancing the responsible management of resources with the promotion of community well-being.

Mértola's municipal budget for next year is more than a mere allocation of resources: is a testament to the joint effort to create a stronger community, prosperous and equitable.
