Following the work for the Mértola certification process as a sustainable tourist destination, in the scope of the requirements of the Biosphere Destination Referential, The letter of commitment to sustainability was signed and publicly presented the action plan for the sustainable tourist destination certification.
The session was attended by the president and the deputy mayor of Mértola, Mário Tomé and Rosinda Pimenta, respectively. Also attended by José Santos, President of Tourism of Alentejo ERT, Peter Blessed, Vice President of Tourism of Alentejo Ert and PatrÃcia Araújo, BIOSPHERE PORTUGAL CEO.
This certification process emerges as an important initiative that aims to strengthen the notoriety and strategic position of Mértola in the global market for sustainable tourist destinations. In line with current growth trends in tourist markets that value social sustainability, economic and environmental, Certification will contribute to consolidating Mértola as a destination that respects and promotes the preservation of its territory.
