Mértola: Hunting Fair promotes debate on hunting consumption and Honey Fair.


Under the IX Fair Mértola Hunt, which is made of 26 a 28 October, the APIGUADIANA promotes the II Honey Contest Guadiana Valley Natural Park, also struggling hunting consumption in the Mértola municipality.

A APIGUADIANA, Beekeepers Association of the Guadiana Valley Natural Park, together with the Municipality of Mértola, promotes II Honey Contest Guadiana Valley Natural Park.

Honey contest aims to boost a sector that is of extreme wealth for rural development, and encourage quality production. The promotion and dissemination of Mel the Natural Park of Guadiana Valley, grows the spirit of those who work all year to achieve this product excellence. It is very important the support and enhancement provided by community. The latest edition of the competition was attended by many of Beekeepers. This year we again with his presence, so that increasingly Mel Guadiana Valley Natural Park and with whom he works has the deserved recognition.

The game consumption in Mértola is a reality of the Iron Age, evidenced by archaeological studies, that remains to the present day. Based on this tradition, the Municipality of Mértola, the Mértola Archaeological Site and the Mértola Businessmen Association promote the next day 27 October, 10h00, in the grounds of the Hunting Fair, a conference on hunting and food.

The conference, IX edition of the integrated Fair Mértola Hunting, also is part of a reflection and joint action for the implementation of a local agri-food strategy and development of local products. Hunting is also linked to the sustainable development of territories and the concept of slow food. The conference is supported by PROVERE Valuation of Wild Resources Alentejo.

The program is composed of two panels. During the morning the major theme is Hunting in History, with presentations on hunting iconography in antiquity, hunting and eating in Al-Andalus and the evidence of hunting activity in the territory of Mértola - the Iron Age to the Middle Ages. The second panel is dedicated to the theme of hunting, power and economy, the following themes: potential contributions of the Competence Center for the Study, Management and Sustainability of hunting and Biodiversity Species in structuring and streamlining the processing industries, valuation and Hunting meat certification, Hunting row in Portugal: case study, the game meat sector in Spain, the certification of a product of excellence: certification of the Red Partridge and Hunting and Wild Food challenge that for food tourism.

Also within the power, will take place at the fairgrounds, the showcooking "Hunting as wild resource Alentejo", with Chef Margarida Rodrigues.
