Mértola: Parish Council supports birth of babies, assigning 500 euros.
The drastic reduction in the birth of babies in Mértola parish in 2017, He led the Parish Council to allocate a grant of 500 euros for each newborn registered.
This measure aims to promote higher birth and combat population decline that affects the parish and the municipality of Mértola.
With an area of 303 kms/2, where spread 20 settlements, in total 2.824 population, last year were born less 10 babies than in 2016. This year born 23 children, contra as 13 last year, while during the month of January, only there was a birth.
The low birth rate and aging population, constitute a major concern of the City Council factor which according to its president, Louis Wood "is necessary to reverse, that is why we launched the Baby + Project ", justified.
"The allocation of 500 euros for each registered baby, It aims at fixing and improving the living conditions of households in the parish ", adding the president of the junta that applications "include parents or just the mother residing for more than two years in the parish", concluded.
