Mértola: Municipality adheres to the "Covenant of Mayors" and the "Mayors Adapt".
The Municipality of Mértola has already signed the "Covenant of Mayors" and "Mayors Adapt". The decision was approved, unanimously, at the regular meeting day of Chamber 7 October. The document will be presented to the next meeting of the Municipal Assembly.
Mértola, like their European counterparts, undertakes to overcome the objectives set by the European Union 2020, to reduce by at least 20 percent CO2 emissions in its territory and to present an action plan for sustainable energy, including a reference emission inventory to define how to achieve the goals.
With the theme of "Meeting the 20-20-20 in 2020 "the substantial purpose of this initiative is that in 2020 are reduced in 20 percent CO2, Of the increase in 20 percent Energy Efficiency and the incorporation of renewable sources in energy production.
The "Mayors Adapt" is an initiative that aims to combat climate change, which has several European municipalities joined. Cities and towns are particularly vulnerable to extreme weather events and the adverse effects of climate change. Of local authorities play, consequently, a key role in implementing mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change
The project begins with the launch of the "Covenant of Mayors" will focus on efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas effect, while the “Mayors Adapt” focuses on adaptation measures.
