The Municipality of Mértola decreed three days of mourning, with the flag at half a rod, For the death of Miguel Bento, that in the present exercise the position of deputy of the Municipal Assembly, elected by the CDU.
Miguel Bento, of 62 year old, died yesterday at Santa Mareia Hospital, in Lisbon, a long illness. The municipality justifies that it was “a citizen who dedicated much of his life to the public service and the municipal cause, always with a strong commitment to your land and democratic values ”.
Miguel Bento performed, over several decades, functions of great relevance within the municipality of Mértola, Always elected by CDU: Deputy Mayor of the City Council between 1997 and 2001; Opposition councilor of 2001 a 2005; Municipal Assembly Deputy in the periods of 2009 a 2013, 2017 a 2021 and 2021 a 2025 and Opposition councilor again between 2013 and 2017.
The municipality states in a statement that "its active and continuing participation in local political life leaves an indelible mark in the recent history of the municipality of Mértola". Miguel Bento was married and had two children.
Miguel Bento's funeral is held this Saturday at 10:30 am, of the Mértola Chapel, For the Cemetery of Our Lady of the Neves, In the “Vila Museum”.
