Mértola: Museum records increase in visitors.
The Museum of Mértola registered in 2017 the largest number ever of visitors.
They were recorded 46426 tickets, more 8071 the previous year. This amount refers only to the entries in the matrix core Church, the most visited, yet the visitation increase was found in all cores.
Of this total 52% refer to foreign nationals and visitors 48% national visitors. Foreign markets especially Germany which is 28% foreign visitors, the France 17%, The Spain 14%, the Brazil 9% and the Netherlands 7%.
Also noteworthy market growth in North America with the United States and Canada to represent 4% of visitors and the Italian market also register 4% total of foreign visitors.
The significant growth of tourists in the territory stems from the continuous and coordinated work of the Municipality, companies and supervisory authorities to structure and promote the tourist offer of Mértola and the Alentejo region in domestic and foreign markets.
