"Monsaraz Christmas to Kings": With street crib, concerts and tribute to peace with launch sky lanterns
The medieval village of Monsaraz will celebrate the Christmas season between days 4 December and 9 January with the traditional Nativity Scene Street with figures at actual size, craft shows and regional products, street entertainment, a tribute to peace, Christmas concerts, New Year and Kings, Sing to the Child and Sing to the Kings.
Yesterday, the Schlossplatz, We began this series of events entitled "Monsaraz Christmas to Kings", with the inauguration of the Nativity Street and the performance of the Choir of the Parish of Monsaraz.
This artistic project of sculptor Teresa Martins will be on display for the sixteenth consecutive year and can be enjoyed until the day 9 January. The medieval village streets will be scattered the crib figures, as the Magi, o pastor, the guards of the castle, potter, the carter, the laundress and Fiadeiro, heading into next to the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph and the Infant Jesus, that they are placed on the Schlossplatz.
The structures of the life-size figures are made of iron and covered by network waterproofed cloths ecru. The sculptures are painted in pastel colors, Old and lilac pink, and they have faces and hands made of ceramic. Each year the figures are placed in different locations and are illuminated at night, offering a pleasant stroll through the streets of the medieval town.
"Monsaraz Christmas to Kings", initiative organized by the Municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz, Monsaraz Parish Council and the Parish Choir of Monsaraz, It proposes for this end-of-week an exhibition of handicrafts and regional products, days 5 and 6 of December, from 10h to 17h, in Largo Dom Nuno Alvares Pereira. On 12 of December, entre as 12h e as 17h, in the churchyard of the parish church, there will be musical entertainment street by the students of the Philharmonic Society Corvalense Music School and the work of the Youth Band of the Philharmonic Society Corvalense.
On 19 of December, to 21h, the Mother Church will receive the traditional Sing to the Child, with the participation of the Choir of the Parish of Monsaraz, Coral Group and Ethnographic "Friends of Alentejo" Feijo and the poet Manuel Sergio, who will be accompanied on the guitar by José Farinha. In the same place, on 26 of December, at 17h, achieves the Christmas Concert with the Polyphonic Choir of the Philharmonic Society Corvalense.
The first day of the year will be New Year's Concert and Peace. In the Church of Santiago, 17h30, will perform the Quartet Bachus, accompanied by soprano Ana Cerro (solista do Teatro Nacional S. Carlos) and with the participation of the Choir of the Parish of Monsaraz. After the concert, by 19h, associations and local businesses will pay tribute to peace with the launch of 100 sky lanterns, a human chain that will connect the village gate to the castle gate.
During the day 2 January there will be street entertainment with Band chamber music groups from Harmony Philharmonic Society Reguenguense. The Sing the Kings will take place next to the crib on 5 January, 19:30, with fashions interpreted by the Choir of the Parish of Monsaraz.
Closing the "Monsaraz Christmas to Kings", on 9 January, 17h, in Church, there will be the concert of the Kings Coral S. Sundays, directed by Maestro JoĂŁo LuĂs Nabo.
