Moura: 37 years of elevation to City


Moura City Council will mark the 37 years of the elevation of Moura to the city, on 1 Feb., day when the decree that gave this recognition of the city was published in Diário da República.

The program starts at 09:00 with a street party with the SFUM band “Os Amarelos”. To 10:00 there will be a guided tour entitled “Marks of a City” (initiative with participation subject to registration, which must be held in the Tourist Reception Building – Castelo de Moura).

To 15:00, a solemn session is held, in the Main Hall of the Town Hall, where there will be speeches by the President of the Municipal Assembly of Moura, Jose Velez, and Mayor de Moura, Álvaro Azedo.

It follows, to 15:30, the launch of the publication “Retalhinhos da Memória”; to 16:00 the performance of Tuna from the Senior University of Moura; to 16:20 the public presentation of the Senior group Terra do Sol; and, to 16:40, the performance of the Contratempo quartet.

It was the day 18 December 1987 that Parliament approved the elevation of Moura to city, a law that was published in the Official Gazette, on 1 February 1988, where you can read the following text: “The Assembly of the Republic decrees, under the terms of paragraph d) Article 164 and No. 2 Article 169 of the Constitution, the following: Single article. The village of Vila de Moura is taken to the city category ”.
