The book “Convent of Santa Clara de Moura, from splendor to extinction”, by Marisa Bacalhau, has already been presented to the public in the temporary exhibitions wing of the Municipal Museum of Moura (old slaughterhouse).
This edition of the Municipality of Moura was the result of a thorough research work in various Portuguese archives about the Convent of Santa Clara de Moura, as well as the Clarissa community that inhabited it between 1610 and 1893.
Reading it allows you to appreciate not only the history of the building, as the daily life of this female community and the various vicissitudes, lived since its foundation. This publication constitutes an important landmark for the knowledge of the local history that the municipality considers an important element, whose preservation, study and dissemination is essential.
The exhibition will also be available to the public on the same day. “Santa Clara de Moura, the feminine universe in a cloistered convent”, patent in the old slaughterhouse until 18 July (tuesday to sunday, the 09:00 | 12:30 – 14.00 | 17.30).
This exhibition brings the people of Mourenses back to the material component of the permanence of this religious community in Moura, offering the visitor testimonies of its relevance and uniqueness.
